Dear Carolina Community,

Thanks to you, we are happy to report continued positive trends this week. Your efforts to get vaccinatedwear a mask and participate in the Carolina Together Testing Program continue to be reflected in the weekly metrics:

  • Between Sept. 13 and Sept. 19, the CTTP processed 4,710 asymptomatic tests, and just 16 came back positive. The asymptomatic positivity rate is 0.34%, down from 1.13% in the previous week. Due to this low positivity rate and to conserve resources, we do not recommend asymptomatic testing for vaccinated individuals more than one time per week.
  • The symptomatic testing rate for the same period is 2.1% down from 6.8% the week before.
  • Most of the positive student cases we have identified in our community have experienced relatively mild, cold-like symptoms. Campus Health has not received any reports of student hospitalizations due to COVID-19 this semester.
  • 93% of students have attested that they are vaccinated, as well as 92% of faculty and 83% of staff. In the past seven days, the Student Stores Pharmacy has given 150 COVID-19 vaccinations.

The metrics are tracking as expected and demonstrate that our community is committed to taking care of each other.

Flu Vaccination
It’s important to remember that influenza can be a serious, contagious respiratory disease, and the best way to prevent seasonal flu is to be vaccinated every year. This year, getting your flu vaccination is even more important. Being vaccinated against influenza will help reduce the overall burden of respiratory diseases and help conserve health care resources. If you do not obtain your flu vaccination on campus but obtain one through your primary care provider or at a community pharmacy or clinic, you can still self-report compliance.

Extended Employee Vaccination Deadline Approaching
Employees have until the end of the day on Oct. 1 to attest that they have been vaccinated. Beginning Oct. 4, employees who have not attested to vaccination will be required to participate in the Carolina Together Testing Program one time per week. To avoid this requirement, now is the time to get vaccinated and let Carolina know.

New Vaccination Incentives
We are giving away digital Carolina Together Ambassadors Golden Tickets to all students, faculty and staff who have completed the vaccine certification form before Oct. 1. Between Oct. 1 and Nov. 26, there will be weekly drawings to distribute 570 Student Store gift cards and other prizes. On Nov. 5, there will be special drawings for Carolina basketball tickets and a VIP Nike prize package.

Carolina, we appreciate your continued adherence to the COVID-19 Community Standards. We are heading in the right direction, but we must stay the course in order to keep our campus vibrant and safe.

Sincerely,

The Carolina Together Testing Program Team
