Dear Carolina Community,

This week marks one month into the fall semester and the official end of summer. Your commitment to the COVID-19 Community Standards is helping our campus get back to a more normal Carolina experience. Thank you for getting your vaccines, wearing your masks and participating in the Carolina Together Testing Program. The key metrics we are following are continuing to remain stable:

  • The asymptomatic positivity rate for the week of Sept. 6-12 was 1.13% of the 4,513 tests processed. This is our second week in a row with a positivity rate below 1.2%. Since we had an abbreviated week of testing last week due to the Labor Day holiday, we did report fewer total cases last week than the week prior (83 the week of Sept. 6-12 versus 119 Aug. 30-Sept. 5).
  • Symptomatic testing garnered a 5.9% positivity rate of 307 tests processed.
  • The vast majority of the positive student cases we have identified in our community have experienced relatively mild, cold-like symptoms, with only a few people experiencing moderate symptoms like the flu. Campus Health has not received any reports of student hospitalizations due to COVID-19 this semester.
  • 93% of students have attested that they are vaccinated.

Vaccine Percentages
You may have noticed that the percentage of vaccinated employees posted on Carolina Together has decreased this week, and we want you to understand why. The percentage of employees is based on employees eligible for the Carolina Together Testing Program, and that eligibility is based on several factors, including employment status and work location, so there were additions to the total number of employees this week. We regret this oversight in previous calculations.

The number of employees vaccinated remains the same, and in fact has increased by over 800 employees the past 10 days as faculty and staff get vaccinated and let us know.

As a reminder, the Student Stores Pharmacy offers vaccinations for faculty, staff and students Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Appointments are requested, but not required.

Deadline Extension for Employee Participation in CTTP and Golden Ticket Incentives

We let our faculty and staff know yesterday that we are extending the deadline for vaccination from the previously announced Sept. 15 to Oct. 1 because we have seen an increase in the number of people getting vaccinated recently and would like to give the additional employees mentioned above time to get their vaccines.

Employees who attest to vaccination between today, Sept. 15, and Oct. 1 will automatically be entered into a virtual Golden Ticket drawing. The Golden Ticket program is an incentive program offering prizes to those who are adhering to COVID-19 Community Standards and keeping Carolina safe. Additional prizes are being added to the program as part of this incentive, and employees who complete the COVID-19 certification between today and Oct. 1 will be eligible. All students, faculty and staff can receive a Golden Ticket at any time as part of the Carolina Together Ambassadors program.

The best way to help our Carolina community continues to be getting vaccinated, wearing a mask and being kind to one another. Thank you to all who are doing their part.
